WABC-TV is looking for a highly motivated producer
for the weekday 5:30PM newscast. You need to be able to
build a complicated and compelling newscast in a highly
competitive, high-pressure environment. You must have
outstanding news judgment, an ability to juggle multiple
breaking news stories, and a great production sense. You
must work well with reporters, assignment editors,
writers and other producers. Outstanding writing and
copy editing skills are necessary. Candidates for this
position should love producing newscasts and should
aspire to management positions. Major market producing

Primary
Responsibilities:
Continuously
gathers, evaluates, writes and assembles stories into
newscast form, in order to provide complete, accurate,
and compelling newscasts. Works with anchors, associate
producers, executive producers, reporters and editors in
refining, graphically enhancing, and adding production
values to stories, to produce the best possible newscast
and maximize story value and impact. Offers enterprise
story ideas during editorial meetings, to provide
interesting and innovative story ideas to enhance
viewership. Oversees and times newscasts in the control
room on a daily basis, to ensure smooth and professional
presentation of the newscast. Performs other essential
functions as assigned.
Minimum
Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum
five(5) years as a line producer in a medium or large
market, preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast
Journalism or allied field preferred. Excellent
organizational and communication skills required. Must
be results-oriented, innovative and demonstrate

SUMMARY: Executive Producer to oversee all aspects of
news production for KTVU’s 4-hour block of local Morning
News. Mornings on Two and The KTVU Morning News are the
top rated morning newscasts in the Bay Area.
Attend editorial meetings and help generate stories.
Help execute quality newscasts using the highest
journalistic standards, top production values, and a
research-based action plan. Executive Producer to
coordinate and direct news employees to insure a
balanced and accurate news program following the format,
policy and guidelines established by the News Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the
following. Other duties may be assigned.
Consult with Newscast Producers, Assignment Editors
and News Managers on news stories and materials
developed by KTVU.
Prepare a list of News stories and visual materials
for integration within the News program format.
Assign stories to anchors, reporters, writers, and
editors for scripting, production and timing.
Develop graphics for production by Design Department.
Consult with Director, Anchor and other Producers on
production needs.
Work in the Control Room during broadcast to oversee
presentation and changes in format.
In addition to Executive Producer oversight and
management duties, candidates must be able to step-in
and produce a newscast if/when needed, and be able to do
it with the highest level of production and news value.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages several
subordinate supervisors (Newscast Producers) who
supervise writers, editors and reporters. Is responsible
for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation
of this unit.
